Physical Education
At Brettenham, we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical development and well-being. A broad and balanced physical education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils with increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, provide stimulating, enjoyable, satisfying and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils. The selection of suitably differentiated and logically developed tasks, will help pupils, irrespective of their innate ability, enjoy success and be motivated to further develop their individual potential and take part in lifelong physical activity.
Curriculum
Games:
In EYFS and KS1, the children will develop basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities.
Invasion Games:
In KS2, children will be learning about invasion games. An invasion game is used to describe any game where the objective is to attack the opposition's territory and score a goal or point. They are usually played between teams of equal players and these fast-paced games focus on teamwork, maintaining possession, scoring and defending. Sports personality of the year 2023
Congratulations to all the nominees this year and the winner is.........
Ijaz is a worthy winner. He displays not only the physical qualities we look for but also his thinking. He is able to problem-solve when faced with tactical and compositional problems and shares these ideas with the people he is working with. He does this in such an articulate way that everyone he works with excels in PE.
Not only has he got a brilliant mind, he is socially so gentle, kind and supportive to all the children he works with. He makes them feel at ease, which allows them to take risks when working with him without the worry of making mistakes. This is something that I have seen Ijaz develop over the last couple of years as his confidence in PE has grown.
Lastly, this young man epitomises the word standards, he sets the bar so high for himself in any challenge he faces. This is a trait that will carry him through school and on to great things.
Congratulations Ijaz, you are the 2023 Sports Personality of the year!

There was so many worthy Nominees but the trophy went to Obi- Rempon Sarfo for he's work and attitude not just in lessons but for representing the school in borough competitions to the highest standards. Obi was presented the award by a former student Kazaiah Sterling who currently plays professional football in America for South Georgia Tormenta FC, Kazaiah was happy to answer questions from the students about his career so far. Netball League 2022/23
Our school netball team played their first two matches of the season against St Johns St James and Latymer All Saints. The girls found the first 5 minutes difficult getting used to a new environment and knowing where their team mates were on the court. They settled down and made some accurate passes down the court resulting in a 5-0 win. Having gained more confidence the girls started quicker in the second match and showed greater awareness and held their positioning. Congratulations girls a fantastic start to the season with two wins, I look forward to hearing how the season progresses.
